Quality Care

We know that when it comes to your health care you want the most cost effective, professional and compassionate care available.

Dental Health

Dental health is a matter of life-long concern.

Healthy teeth and gums contribute to your overall good health and appearance.

Our aim is to help you to preserve your natural teeth by preventing the disease processes which lead to tooth loss, namely decay and gum disease.

Sterilisation
Every step is taken to eliminate the risks of cross-infection as stipulated by the British Dental Association. All instruments and drills are sterilised in an autoclave, which is the safest method. Other items such as bibs, towels, impression trays, cups, needles, polishers, burs, matrix bands and gloves are single-use and disposable.

Costs
Clinical dentistry for adults is given via the Denplan subscription scheme.

Fee Per Item This is the traditional pay-as-you-go system. Copies of our fees list are available on request. This covers tooth bleaching and relative analgesia sedation which is not available under our Denplan scheme.

Denplan This is a subscription plan, where a monthly fee covers the cost of all the patients' clinical dentistry. It costs the average adult less than the cost of a daily newspaper. Denplan has given the practice an Excel accreditation which means we are compliant with incoming legislation on clinical governance. This is currently the only system that fully satisfies the incoming legislation.

Children are normally seen within the NHS Capitation Scheme which is government funded.

Inside the Surgery

Preventative Program
Successful prevention of dental disease starts early in life. We give parents advice on fluoride and caring for infants' teeth, and encourage regular attendance from around two years onwards. Basic preventative measures can dramatically improve children's dental health.

All children are encouraged in good dietary and brushing routines as well as regular dental inspections. Visits are often interactive, using an intra-oral camera and computer images to inform and educate children. This has become an integral part of good preventative care.

Continuing into adult life, more attention is paid to gums. The practice has a hygenist to give extra help to the dentist with this problem.

At this practice we try to save every tooth possible. Even the most broken down tooth can be buillt up and returned to useful and cosmetic function again.

Non-Attendance
We endeavor to remind you of your appointment, so please ensure we have your up-to-date telephone and mobile numbers.

If an appointment is missed a discretionary fee may be charged for lost clinical time which will be donated to St Columba's hospice in Edinburgh.
